Kathy Bates looks stunning in a waist-cinching gown at the 2025 Emmys after slamming critics for crediting Ozempic for 100 lbs. of weight loss

Kathy Bates presents another timeless look at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards!

The actress, 77, graced the red carpet for the awards ceremony, which took place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, in a beautiful gown that highlighted her body.

The outfit in question was an elegant black floor-length Vera Wang gown with an open neckline that highlighted her clavicles, as well as eye-catching jewelry from Rahaminov Diamonds, featuring an 18k white gold double tennis bracelet with pear-cut diamonds totaling 25.65 carats. She enhanced the skin-baring silhouette with gray hair worn in a voluminous updo. Her makeup included a strong red lip.

Bates is no stranger to the Emmys, having won twice and having had 15 nominations. This year, she aims to win the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award for her performance in Matlock.

Bates faces off against Sharon Horgan of Bad Sisters (Apple TV+), Britt Lower of Severance (Apple TV+), Bella Ramsey of The Last of Us (HBO Max), and Keri Russell of The Diplomat (Netflix) for the honor.

The actress last appeared at an awards event in February 2025, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The American Horror Story alum donned Giorgio Armani’s sparkling black fitted jacket and matching slacks. To complete her appearance, she donned Sneex, the mesh heel-sneaker hybrid created by Spanx’s inventor, on the red carpet.

At the 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards, where she won Best Actress in a Drama Series for Matlock, she donned an edgy black moto-style leather jacket over a black satin top.

She also looked stunning in another Giorgio Armani black gown at the 2025 Golden Globes, with a beaded dinner jacket that tightened around her waist. She wore the jacket with black tuxedo trousers and a matching crystal-covered evening purse.

Bates showed her weight reduction at the 2024 Emmys, when she wore a magnificent form-fitting Giorgio Armani outfit. She wore a deep purple and black beaded gown with a basic black shoe.

She told PEOPLE that she went to Giorgio Armani for the first time “in quite a while” to pick a dress for the evening and that getting ready for the occasion was an “emotional experience.”

Bates also stated that when at the fitting with a friend, they were both “in tears because everything I came out in just looked exquisite.” She discussed how the red carpet experience was different for her due to her weight reduction, stating, “I knew I felt great, and I looked great.”

The Academy Award-winning actress has years of experience on red carpets—she broke through after winning her Best Actress Oscar in 1991—but of last year’s Emmy Awards, she remarked, “The images on the red carpet were so different from any pictures I’d ever had made on a red carpet. I simply felt so peaceful and prepared.”

In a recent interview with Variety published on September 10, Bates denied that all of her 100-pound weight reduction came from using Ozempic, an FDA-approved prescription drug for persons with type 2 diabetes. It’s one of the brand names for semaglutide, also known as Wegovy, which acts in the brain to influence satiety and is a popular weight-loss craze in Hollywood and elsewhere.

The Oscar winner attributes the majority of her success to a thorough revamp of her lifestyle and food, which included shedding 100 pounds over six years.

“People remark, ‘Well, that was the Olympics.’ “F— you, that was the Ozempic! It took me years to accomplish this,” she told the site. “I received this diabetes diagnosis—my father died of it; his mother died of it; and one of my sisters is in danger. When they stated ‘diabetes,’ I worked out what to do to reduce weight gradually over time.

“And then when Ozempic came along, I was able to lose the last 15 to 20 pounds and keep it off,” she told me.
