Parents say goodbye to their newborn as life support is switched off, then he starts breathing immediately
Most mothers would agree that pregnancy and labor can be quite daunting, and all you truly desire is to bring a healthy baby into the world, full of life and energy.
However, one mother encountered the unimaginable when her baby boy was born with health complications that required him to be placed on a ventilator.
Lisa Hough posted a photo of her precious baby grandson, born to her daughter Chelsea, and also revealed the heart-wrenching decision her daughter had to make.
As a mother of three and grandmother of two, she shared that her grandson Karson was born with several medical challenges.

āThe only way to express what has transpired is that this beautiful baby boy has endured two extremely rare traumatic conditions that are entirely unrelated to each other,ā Nana Lisa wrote on her Facebook page.
She further explained that her newborn grandson had experienced a āhemorrhage in the left temporal lobeā and was also diagnosed with a rare genetic metabolic disorder known as Non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH).
āHis situation is classified as severe and would result in him being significantly neurologically impaired ā functioning at a level of a 2-3 month old at best for his entire life,ā Lisa stated.
Faced with all the information provided by the medical team, his mother made the incredibly difficult choice to remove him from life support.
Lisa recounted the heartbreaking moment they had to bid farewell to their beloved little one.
āAlthough we werenāt prepared to say goodbye to Karson, we had accepted the unavoidable. We were given 10 minutes after withdrawing intensive care and the ventilator, and were informed he would not breathe independently and to anticipate his heart stopping within those 10 minutes.ā

However, Lisa mentioned that it appeared āGod had other plansā and shared that she and her daughter experienced a miracle.
āAs soon as the ventilator was taken away, he began to breathe on his own, his heart rate and oxygen levels stabilized, and here we are, five hours later, with this miracle baby whom we were told would never breathe, swallow, have gag reflexes, or even survive. He is breathing without assistance.
āHe is swallowing. He is surviving. He has even slightly opened his eyes a few times today.ā
She noted that the doctors had no explanation for the occurrence, stating that no medical or scientific data supports the survival of this little fighter; their only explanation is that itās a miracle.
āIām not sure why I ever thought we were unworthy of a miracle⦠and Iām uncertain how long we will have him, but we have him now. And now we will cherish every moment,ā Lisa expressed.
Ultimately, on March 1, she and her family received the wonderful news that their little bundle of joy would be coming home that week.
āEvery day, I find myself in awe, and just when I believe God is finished, I am swiftly reminded that He isnāt⦠I have no words to express my gratitude, and I will praise Him for as long as I have breath in my lungs for giving Karson his,ā Lisa shared.
From her very first post, the community rallied around them, celebrating Karsonās survival with over 30,000 reactions to the announcement of the fantastic news that he survived and is thriving.
