Popular Spanish Star Passed Away At Age 42

Spanish actress Verónica Echegui has died at the age of 42. According to local reports cited by the Daily Mail, she passed away on Sunday in a Madrid hospital after a private battle with cancer.

She had over an 18-year career spanning more than 30 films and television projects, and Echedui gained recognition for her 2008 performance in My Prisoner’s Yard, directed by Belén Macías and produced by Pedro Almodóvar.

Verónica Echegui (1981–2025) was a Spanish actress celebrated for her versatility, depth, and natural charisma on screen. Born in Madrid, she studied drama at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and began her acting career in Spanish cinema during the mid-2000s.

Her breakout role came in 2006 with the film Yo soy la Juani (My Name Is Juani), directed by Bigas Luna. Her powerful portrayal of a young woman striving to escape her working-class background earned her widespread recognition and a Goya Award nomination for Best New Actress. This performance quickly positioned her as one of the brightest rising stars of Spanish film.
