Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are teaming together again.
Bullock and Reeves, both 60, will return in an upcoming romantic thriller from Amazon MGM Studios, PEOPLE can reveal. They previously appeared together in 1994’s high-action thriller Speed and 2006’s romantic drama The Lake House.
Noah Oppenheim penned the script for Jackie Kennedy Onassis’ movie Jackie and co-created the Netflix series Zero Day, which stars Robert De Niro. Speed producer Mark Gordon is also involved in the project.
The two recently attended a screening at American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre to commemorate Speed’s 30th anniversary. In a talkback onstage with Speed director Jan de Bont, 80, Reeves and Bullock reflected on their filming experiences.
In the 1994 picture, Los Angeles police officer Jack (Reeves) attempts to rescue people on a bus carrying a bomb that would detonate if the speed drops below 50 mph. Jack is joined by passenger Annie (Bullock) and his associate Harry (Jeff Daniels) in a fast-paced, tense confrontation with furious extortionist Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper), who placed the bomb.
“We knew we were doing something wacky,” Reeves explained of the film’s storyline.
“I was behind the wheel of a projectile, so I was just happy to be alive at the end of the day,” said Bullock with laughter.
Regarding the idea of a third film, which the Beyond Fest crowd enthusiastically applauded, de Bont stated, “I think it would be a different movie.” Nodding to Bullock and Reeves, he said, “It would be great to work with them [again].”
Bullock stated that the Speed 3 will be “the geriatric version.” “It will not be fast.”
Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick in the 2025 Ana de Armas spinoff Ballerina, as well as play an angel in Aziz Ansari’s forthcoming Good Fortune. He’s also developing BRZRKR, the comic book series he co-wrote with Matt Kindt, into a film and anime series. Bullock’s forthcoming projects include a sequel to Practical Magic, co-starring Nicole Kidman.
