The government has warned US citizens against visiting these two countries
The United States has released an urgent ‘do not travel’ advisory for two nations due to escalating political instability and potential threats to personal safety.
While exploring new countries and cultures can be a rewarding experience, even the most experienced travelers must remain aware of destinations that pose safety risks.
For instance, individuals like Drew Binsky, who has visited every country globally, have successfully navigated such regions without incident. However, the official guidance from the US government strongly recommends avoiding these two specific countries.
The State Department has specifically cautioned against traveling to certain areas in Colombia, citing a heightened risk of ‘violent crime’ and ‘terrorism.’
“Travel to these regions is strongly discouraged for any purpose. Violent crimes, including armed robbery and murder, are prevalent in these areas. Additionally, terrorist organizations operate in some regions,” the department advises on its website.

U.S. government personnel stationed in Colombia are restricted from traveling to certain areas due to safety concerns.
While some regions fall under the ‘reconsider travel’ advisory, the State Department specifically warns against visiting Arauca, Cauca, and the Colombia-Venezuela border due to high crime rates.
The department noted, “Violent crimes such as murder, assault, and robbery are prevalent in many parts of Colombia. In certain areas, organized crime is widespread, involving extortion, theft, and kidnapping.”
Additionally, there is a threat of terrorist violence, including attacks and related activities, within Colombia.
The department also highlighted that U.S. citizens entering Colombia without a visa have faced ‘terrorism charges,’ resulting in prolonged detention.
Burkina Faso is another country for which the U.S. government recommends avoiding all travel due to risks associated with ‘terrorism, crime, and kidnapping.’
This landlocked nation in West Africa has an estimated population of 23 million and is recognized as one of the least developed countries globally.

The State Department has issued a warning to individuals considering travel to Burkina Faso, stating: “Travel to Burkina Faso is strongly discouraged for any purpose due to the risks of terrorism, crime, and kidnapping.”
“Terrorist groups are actively planning and executing attacks across Burkina Faso.”
They further emphasized: “The risk of kidnapping is a constant threat throughout Burkina Faso, particularly in Ouagadougou and notably in the Sahel and Eastern regions.”
“Given these dangers, the U.S. government cannot offer emergency assistance to American citizens in most areas of the country. Additionally, U.S. government personnel in Burkina Faso are restricted from traveling beyond the capital due to safety concerns.”
