The annual “It’s A Bloke Thing” luncheon in Toowoomba gained a lot of attention after Keith Urban made an unexpected appearance. The well-known country music performer, who is passionate about raising awareness of prostate cancer, played for about 500 people at the Prostate Cancer Awareness/Fundraiser event at Wellcamp Airport.
Urban has a very strong personal commitment to the cause. Prostate cancer claimed the life of Robert, his father, in December 2015; other family members have also suffered from the illness. The statement in the article that “He was powerless to cure his father of the illness” highlights Urban’s personal investment in the subject.
For the benefit, Urban traveled back to Australia despite being on his Graffiti-U World Tour, which is presently touring the country. In just seven years, this event has raised millions of dollars for prostate cancer awareness and research. The event brought in approximately $1.53 million just last year.
The luncheon this year raised an incredible $2,024,000, making it even more successful. One of the main highlights was Urban’s involvement—especially considering that he performed for free and gave his time freely. One of Australia’s most popular midday fundraising events, the event has a substantial impact in the fight against prostate cancer.
