Aubrey Plaza Faces ‘Daily Struggle’ After Husband’s Tragic Death at 47
It has been about 7 months since actress Aubrey Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena, died via suicide in January at the age of 47 years old.
According to CNN, they started dating in 2011, and publicly announced that they were married in 2021. They had worked on multiple projects together including “Life After Beth,” “Cinema Toast” and “Spin Me Round.”
Now, Plaza is opening up about how she is coping without her husband.
She recently went on her friend and former “Parks and Recreation” costar Amy Poehler’s podcast “Good Hang.” Poehler asked her, “On behalf of all the people who feel like they know you, and the people who do know you, how are you feeling today?”
Plaza answered honestly and thoughtfully saying, “In this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you.”
While she was happy at that particular moment, she was honest about the “daily struggle” she feels her life is right now. She said, “I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”
Then, Plaza opened up about what grieving feels like to her and compared it to a specific movie. She asked Poehler is she had seen the movie “The Gorge,” and since she hadn’t, she described it saying, “In the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side and there’s a cliff on the other side, then there’s a gorge in between and it’s filled with all these like monster people that are trying to get them.” She added, “I swear when I watched it, I was like that feels like what my grief is like.”
She got even more specific, describing her grief as “a giant wave of awfulness.” She added, “Sometimes I just want to dive into it and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it’s always there.”
