A young adult is making his first visit to his girlfriend’s house.
He is searching for a drinking glass when he observes a row of cups in the cabinet, each bearing what appear to be half words.
Just as his girlfriend’s mother enters the room, he takes up one of them and asks her what the cups are for.
Oh, those! They are family cups, one for each member, but my eyesight has deteriorated to the point where I can no longer distinguish between them.
She retrieves a cup that reads “HIC-” and offers it to the fellow.
“This is for Thomas, and it holds just enough water to cure his hiccups. I wrote HIC on it, so it’s the HIC-cup!”
She then takes out a second cup and says, “This is for Angela, but it says BREA.” When she is heartbroken she enjoys drinking hot toddy…
Therefore, this is her BREA-Cup.”
“Oh, I see what you mean now.” “But doesn’t your husband have his own cup?” asks the boy.
“Oh he does” The mother responds, “It’s the large one with ‘SHUTTHEFU’ written on it…”
