Few persons on the planet can make the claim that they know half as well as Dannion Brinkley what can happen to us once we pass away.
After being struck by lightning in 1975, the former US Marine was pronounced dead for 28 minutes before he passed away and recovered completely.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is less than a one in a million chance of getting struck by lightning in a given year. In other words, you have to be really, really unlucky for it to happen to you.
Naturally, nevertheless, it is not impossible. In theory, there is a very small risk that someone could be struck by lightning during any storm if they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong moment. Nobody is more aware of that than Brinkley.
When lightning hit on September 17, 1975, it traveled down a telephone line, through the phone he was using, and directly into Brinkley’s body. The businessman, athlete, and veteran had been holding a phone to his ear at the time.
According to 8 News Now, he stated, “It went down my spine and into the side of my head above my ear.”
My shoes’ heel nails were fused to the ground by it. I saw the ceiling after it tossed me up in the air, and then I was slammed back down and blinded by a ball of fire that came through the room. I’m on fire. I’m burning. I’m immobilized.
However, this is where things start to get interesting.
Brinkley remembers actually leaving his body following the horrific event, and he didn’t go back to it until around twenty-eight minutes later, after it had been transported to the morgue.
What transpired during his absence? Apparently, it wasn’t all black and white. He has really since discussed the horrible event in order to shed light on “what happens when you die.”
As he watched from above his corpse as medics declared him officially dead, Brinkley recounted feeling as though he was hovering with the ambulance as it carried his body to the hospital.
He continued by saying that after traveling down what he called a tunnel, his consciousness came across a spiritual entity made of light in a “Crystal City.”
In a YouTube interview with T&H – Afterlife, Brinkley claimed to have seen a “360 degree panorama” recreation of his whole life.
He said, “You watch it from a second person point of view.”
“What difference did God and you make in the life you just reviewed?”
Brinkley has his detractors, of course, but he has remained true to his story to this day. Furthermore, to support his convictions, he has really experienced two more near-death experiences.
Brinkley remembered being “reunited with his angelic instructors” during open heart surgery in 1989. He also claimed to have learnt how to “use his new psychic and spiritual gifts to aid the dying and the desperate.”
After that, he had brain surgery and experienced another near-death event.
According to 8 News Now, he clarified, “When you realize you’re a spiritual being and you don’t die, you’re not going to hell, and that’s enough to inspire you to change.”
