The body of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, who went missing after the Bayesian superyacht sank, has been found after an extensive search. Hannah, daughter of British billionaire Mike Lynch, disappeared along with five others when the yacht went down off the coast of Sicily.
Recent reports confirm that Hannah’s body was located five days after the tragedy, which also claimed the lives of her father Mike, International Bank Chair Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy, New York lawyer Christopher Morvillo, and his wife Neda Morvillo.
Divers had already recovered five bodies before finding Hannah, with the remains of the victims brought ashore in Porticello. Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares, was among those who survived by escaping onto a lifeboat before the yacht was fully submerged.
The Bayesian tragedy occurred on August 19, 2024, shortly after Mike Lynch celebrated his acquittal of fraud charges in the US. Canadian-Antiguan chef Recaldo Thomas, who was working on the yacht, was also found deceased on the same day.
Italian authorities are investigating the sinking, considering possible charges similar to manslaughter. The search for Hannah was challenging due to debris and wreckage complications, with divers needing to carefully navigate the confined space of the submerged yacht.
Hannah, a student at Latymer Upper School in London who had recently secured a place at Oxford University, was mourned by her school and community. The tragedy, originally intended as a celebratory voyage, ended in a devastating loss for Mike Lynch’s family.
The sinking, caused by a violent black swan waterspout, has sparked widespread speculation and concern, with some questioning whether there was more to the incident than a tragic accident.
